Okayama University Representatives Pay Courtesy Visit to National University of Laos and Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos

Courtesy Visit to National University of Laos and Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos Professor KADOTA Isao from the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, Associate Professor INAMORI Takao from the Institute of Global Human Resource Development, and Study in Japan Coordinator NII Yusuke from Okayama University paid courtesy visits to the National University of Laos on 8th August and the Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos on 9th August. At the National University of Laos, the delegation met with Vice President Dr. Houngphet CHANTHAVONG, who have experience of studying in Japan, and representatives, and introduced the Vientiane Office and exchanged opinions on future cooperation. Vice President Dr. Houngphet CHANTHAVONG expressed his expectations for the office, saying "Easy access to necessary information related in studying in Japan is very important for Lao students who are interested in studying in Japan. Therefore, we recognize that the opening of the Vientiane office will be of great significance to the National University of Laos and may bring opportunities for many students to study in Japan." At the Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos, the delegation met with the Deputy Director General, Dr. Kamkeo HANSANA and representatives to explain the project and to discuss the initiative to promote study in Japan from Laos. Dr. Kamkeo HANSANA said, "Japan is contributing to the development of human resources in the field of higher education in Laos. I am pleased that the opening of the Vientiane Office will further promote the cooperative relationship between Laos and Japan. He also expressed his welcome to the Lao government. These visits were realized in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the Vientiane Office (Laos), the ASEAN hub of the Japan-Japan Overseas Cooperation Promotion Program, which took place on August 8, 2012. Memorandum of Agreement concluded with Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute

On 8th August, International Affairs Department of Okayama University and the Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in Laos to promote study in Japan from Laos. Director Dr. Phonekeo CHANTHAMALY, representing LJI, and Director KAWAGUCHI Katsumi, representing International Affairs Department of Okayama University, signed the MOA. The conclusion of this MOA was realized on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN Regional Office, Vientiane, Laos. The Vientiane Office locates in LJI and the opening ceremony was held on 8th August. Okayama University Opened Study in Japan Global Network Project ASEAN Regional Office, Vientiane, Laos

As part of its initiatives under the Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN, Okayama University opened a Vientiane Office at Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI), located in the National University of Laos (NUOL) Dongdok Campus on 1st April 2022. On 8th August, Okayama University held an opening ceremony and a total of 30 representatives from 10 governmental and educational institutions in Laos attended, including Ambassador H.E. KOBAYASHI Kenichi from the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR., Deputy Director Dr. Khamkeo HANSANA from Department of Higher Education at Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos, President Dr. Oudom PHONEKHAMPHENG from NUOL, and Director Dr. Phonekeo CHANTHAMALY from LJI. Additionally, Okayama University representatives, Professor KADOTA Isao from the Graduate School of Natural Science, who is the project's General Manager, and Associate Professor INAMORI Takao from the Institute of Global Human Resource Development were in attendance. In his congratulatory address, H.E. Ambassador KOBAYASHI expressed his expectations for the office, saying, "I hope that the establishment of this office in LJI, which serves as a bridge between Japan and Laos, will serve many young Lao youth to study in Japan, and that the two countries will strengthen and further develop friendship. " Then, President Dr. Oudom PHONEKHAMPHENG, noting that education is one of the most important fields in Laos, welcomed the establishment of the office, saying, "I am very pleased with the opening of this office, and I am sure that this office will play a significant role for Lao youth who wish to study in Japan. At the opening ceremony, an information exchange session was also held. Attendees and representatives from Okayama University exchanged information and engaged in lively discussions regarding the situation of study in Japan from Laos and support systems for international students in Japan. The panelists included Ms. Phoutsad CHONEPHETSALATH from Japan Alumni of Laos, Mr. NISHIMURA Yuki, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the Lao PDR., and Dr. Souliphone SIVIXAY from Salavan Teachers Training College, who is alumnus of Okayama University. The Vientiane Office is committed to cooperating with universities, educational institutions, and alumni associations to support Lao students who wish to study in Japan.

Okayama University Representatives Pay Courtesy Visit to Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and National Institute of Education in Cambodia

On June 7, Okayama University Vice President for International Affairs SUZUKI Takayoshi, Associate Professor INAMORI Takao from the Institute of Global Human Resource Development, and Study in Japan Coordinator NII Yusuke paid courtesy visits to the Higher Education Department at the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport as well as the National Institute of Education. At the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the delegation met with Deputy Director General for Higher Education Dr. NITH Bunlay. Representatives from Okayama University introduced Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN and its newly opened Phnom Penh Office, and sought the feasibility of cooperation in holding Study in Japan seminars and relevant events in Cambodia. Dr. NITH Bunlay recognized the importance of the Phnom Penh Office and expressed his willingness to cooperate in building a local network. Furthermore, they also discussed the possibility of concluding a partnership agreement in the near future. Then, at the National Institute of Education, the delegation met with President H.E. Dr. SIENG Sovanna and other representatives from the institute to introduce the Phnom Penh Office and discuss opportunities for future cooperation. Okayama University has had a long-standing cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Education since February 2008. In addition, H.E. Dr. SIENG Sovanna, who has studied in the doctoral program at Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology at Okayama University from 2007 to 2010, has been very supportive of the activities of Okayama University and this project, including Okayama University International Alumni Association (OUIAA) and has established a friendly relationship between the two universities. The catalyst for these visits was the opening ceremony held for the Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN Regional Office, Phnom Penh Office on June 6. Other notable visits include a meeting with Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport H.E. Dr. SANN Vathana, where Okayama University representatives requested increased cooperation between Japan and Cambodia. It is hoped that these visits will result in strengthened collaborative efforts between the Phnom Penh Office, universities and educational institutions in Cambodia, and OUIAA to promote study in Japan.

Okayama University Opened Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN Regional Office, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

As part of its initiatives under the Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN, Okayama University opened a Phnom Penh office at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC), located in the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) campus on 1st March 2022. On 6th June, Okayama University held an opening ceremony and a total of 33 representatives from 15 Cambodian governmental and educational institutions attended, including Counselor KUBO Tomoko from the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, Rector CHET Chealy from RUPP, and Director KHIM Leang from CJCC. Additionally, Okayama University representatives, Vice President for International Affairs SUZUKI Takayoshi and Associate Professor INAMORI Takao from the Institute of Global Human Resource Development were in attendance, while representatives from SixERS (Chiba University, Niigata University, Kanazawa University, Nagasaki University, and Kumamoto University), which is a partner institution of this project, joined online.   In her congratulatory address, Counselor KUBO Tomoko expressed her expectations for the office, saying, “The support provided by the Phnom Penh Office will help many Cambodian students who wish to study in Japan to realize their dreams. The Embassy will work closely with the Phnom Penh Office to provide them with the necessary support”. Then, RUPP Rector CHET Chealy, who has personal experience studying in Japan, expressed his desire to cooperate with the office, saying, "We would like to extend every possible support so that the Phnom Penh Office can carry out its mission smoothly. We believe that promoting studying in Japan opportunities will not only help students acquire the relevant knowledge but also strengthen the friendship between Cambodia and Japan.” In the afternoon on the same day, Okayama University held a Study in Japan Seminar jointly with SixERS partner universities in a hybrid style that includes face-to-face and online. A total of 154 participants including prospective students joined the seminar, and it became a perfect opportunity to commemorate the opening of the Phnom Penh Office. At the seminar, Cambodian students currently studying in Japan and faculty members from each partner university took the stage to introduce their respective universities and elaborate on the appeal of studying in Japan. Representing Okayama University, Vice President Suzuki introduced the university and gave a mock lecture, while Study in Japan Coordinator NII Yusuke introduced the Phnom Penh Office and the project. The Phnom Penh Office is committed to cooperating with universities, educational institutions, and alumni associations to support Cambodian students who wish to study in Japan.
